In just three days from now, that time of year is once again upon us. From 17th – 20th September 2015, the Vienna Masters is for the fourth time bringing the world’s best show-jumpers and the most talented young pony dressage stars to Vienna’s Rathausplatz. For the first time, the world’s elite in working equitation will also be present. Preparations have been underway for months, and the setting up of the event is now in its final phase. But for an event of international standing such as this, what exactly is needed? Let’s take a peek behind the curtains.
The DFG Event GmbH organisational team has precisely six days to transform Vienna’s Town Hall Square – the Rathausplatz – into a world-class show-jumping arena. Around 1200 tonnes of sand will be delivered in 45 lorries, with a further 40 lorries rolling up with the rest of the necessary material. 75 kilometres worth of loaded cable now need to be laid, barriers with a total length of at least 30 kilometres need to be put into place, and 265 boxes must be constructed and arranged. The 3000 bales of the finest Alpenspan premium bedding – upon which the four-legged stars will sleep – are in need of a storage space. With the help of the firm Mauch, this will be brought to and stored at the location in tractors which have been made available for the occasion.
Enormous Felbermayr vehicles will heave the rooves onto the stands, on which ultimately 4000 people, including 800 in the VIP section and 500 on the riders’ stand and in the backstage area, will be sitting. Approximately 60 journalists from around the world will be covering the Vienna Masters live, and they will also need seats. They will be able to work in a temporary office complex which they will share with the event organisers, who will be responsible for coordinating 250 people during the event.
Almost 20 five by five meter exhibitors’ tents, along with the food stands, are appearing at Vienna’s Rathausplatz as if by magic. Mercedes-Benz G-class vehicles are transporting the first obstacles towards the arena. Almost everything is now in place for the 150 riders from around the world, who are set to grace Vienna’s Rathausplatz from Wednesday 16th September and turn it into international hotspot for equestrian sport.
There is free entry on Thursday, as well as on the Friday and Saturday mornings! Secure your tickets now!
