Her name is known all over the world. Her parents’ wrote history with their music and made a gazillion fans rejoice around the globe. Jessica Springsteen (23) is the daughter of rock-legend Bruce “The Boss” Springsteen and E Street Band member Patti Scialfa. In contrast with the offspring of other wealthy or famous parents, the Duke University graduate never really bought into the party or jet-set lifestyle. Her passion was horses from an early age. This was in spite of some tricky initial experiences in the saddle: “I got my first pony at six years of age. I was besotted with him, although he tried to throw me off at every opportunity!”
Number one goal: the Olympics!
Jessica simply cannot imagine life without horses, and her successes in the saddle speak for themselves. She won her first title in the USA national championships of 2008, and in the North American Young Rider Championships in 2010 claimed a silver medal in the team event, coming third in the individual category. She began competing in international tournaments in the same year. Since then, Jessica’s career has developed rapidly. She was part of the US-American Nations Cup team and in 2012 was selected for the Olympic squad. More success was to follow: with victories in five-star events in Dublin, Chantilly and Wellington as well as numerous top-ten finishes in the most difficult examinations around the world. This ensured that she stepped out from the shadow of her famous surname in the truest sense of the word.
Since May 2015, this full-blooded equestrian sportswoman has been stationed at the training facility of Longines Global Champions Tour founder Jan Tops and his wife Edwina Tops-Alexander in Valkensward (NED). Here, she is working towards her ultimate goal of competing at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Under Jan and Edwina’s tutelage, she trains around five horses day in, day out, and the hard work is paying off.
Her connection to her trainer Edwina doesn’t end with their shared passion for equestrian sport. Just like Princess Charlotte of Monaco, they are both brand ambassadors for Gucci in the context of equestrian sport.
Anyone wanting to see Jessica Springsteen live in the show-jumping saddle should save the dates of September 17th – 20th. This is when, at the Vienna Masters 2015, this ambitious young athlete will take to the saddle once again, this time as a guest at Vienna’s Rathausplatz.
