He entered the arena for the CSI5* Mercedes-Benz Championat as the first of 34 participants and departed as the grand victor. Current number 57 in the world rankings Julien Epaillard (FRA) and his nine-year-old Tradition de la Roque, daughter of Kannan, were one of twelve pairs who remained error-free on this 1.50m show-jumping course. However, none of his high-class opponent came close to his time of 56.59 seconds.
One only had to glance at the time recorded by second-placed Max Kühner of Austria (Tyrol) to see how fast Epaillard actually was. With his speedy Zangersheide mare Electric Touch, the world cup finalist galloped through the Mercedes Benz Championat show-jumping course in 59.35 seconds, consigning Marc Houtzager (NED) with Sterrehof’s Bylou to third position (0/60.42). Gerfried Puck (Styria) also made the rankings for Austria, coming seventh (0/64.25) with Bo, offspring of Indorado.
