The Longines chronometer is ticking, time is racing. In one week the Vienna Masters (17th – 20th September 2015) is set to begin; the penultimate of 15 stages of the 2015 Longines Global Champions Tour. For the fourth time, the Formula 1 of equestrian sports will be making a stopover in Austria. One thing is already for certain: almost all of the current 30 best show-jumpers in the world will be there!
Vienna to host the “who’s who” of the show-jumping scene
The elite starting field will be led by team Olympic winner, European champion and current world number one Scott Brash (GBR). At Vienna’s Rathausplatz, the 29-year-old from Great Britain will be aiming to secure his third overall victory in succession in the Longines Global Champions Tour.
The entire Aachen European Championship silver medal winning team will be coming to Vienna; Daniel Deusser is the current number two in the world and has strong riders at his side in the form of Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum, Christian Ahlmann and Ludger Beerbaum. Ludger Beerbaum will be returning to the site of his triumph at the LGT Vienna Masters last year. The top three from the Longines Global Champions Tour of Vienna 2014 – Marcus Ehning (GER), Simon Delestre (FRA) and Luciana Diniz (POR) – will also be competing at Vienna’s Rathausplatz. Denis Lynch (IRL – no. 29) was last year victorious in Gaston Glock’s Championat Vienna Masters, and will no doubt be having a say in the outcome of Gaston Glock’s Grand Prix Vienna Masters this year (taking place on Sunday 20th September).
GLOCK rider Gerco Schröder – a two-time Olympic silver medallist, team World and European champion – will be looking for a repeat of his 2013 victory at the Rathausplatz. He forms part of the strong “Oranje” squad alongside Maikel van der Vleuten (world no. 12) and Harrie Smolders (world no. 22).

The Vienna Masters will feature decorated show-jumpers such as Kent Farrington (USA – no. 4), Olympic champion Steve Guerdat (SUI – no. 5), Bertram Allen (IRL – no. 7), Gregory Wathelet (BEL – no. 10), Rolf-Göran Bengtsson (SWE – no. 15) and “The Living Legend” John Whitaker (GBR – no. 21). Sheikh Ali Bin Khalid Al Thani (no. 32) will be travelling in from Qatar to compete, and in Jessica Springsteen, the USA is not only sending a rock-star daughter into the mix, but one of its most talented up-and-coming show-jumpers nationwide. Shipping heiress Athina Onassis de Miranda will nobly represent her home country of Greece here in Vienna, just has she has done at World and European championships.
